Pongo Necklace
The complex composition of this dynamic necklace distinguishes it from my other designs, ensuring uniqueness and freshness. The shortness of this necklace creates a more fitted, rigid look that harmonizes with the sturdiness of the stones and creates balance.
STORIES BEHIND THE BEADS
The spotty, ashen beads are made of Dalmatian stone, a gemstone resembling the coat of a Dalmatian dog. They are typically found in Chihuahua, Mexico. The name of this necklace was inspired by these beads, Pongo being the name of the Dalmatian from "101 Dalmatians"!
The ebony soapnuts grow in tropical trees throughout the whole of Asia. They are universally used as detergents, shampoos, and soaps. In Ayurveda, they are used for medical purposes. In my house, they are used as beads!
The brass rings are handmade in West Africa by the Ashanti people using the 'lost wax' technique. Their raw rustic feel pairs well with the modern, polished soapnuts creating a beautiful contrast that catches the eye.
The handcrafted brass bauble tube beads are from Ivory coast.
MATERIALS
Brass, semi-precious gemstones and soapnuts.
JEWELLERY CARE
Brass is a natural material and will develop a patina over time giving your necklace a beautiful character. If you prefer your brass shiny, it can be restored with a brass metal polish.
All other components can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth when needed.
Your necklace can last a lifetime if stored in a pouch or box and kept away from water, perfumes and harsh cleaning products.
